I have a baby shower cake due and I have seen some really cute "crib" cakes. I like the one that looks like a box has been cut with the slates in it and the one that have the sheet cake and the bassinet ( half round cake) top. Does anyone have any tips of ideas on how to create these looks?

Thank you!!!

Check with Wilton's babyshower site. They have a couple there.

I did a crib cake last wknd (not uploaded yet). It was pretty simple, but time consuming. I used a 9x13 sheet (2 layer) for the mattress. I covered this w/ fondant. I then took a piece of the wallpaper border and placed it on a gumpaste/fondant base and layed over the mattress for a blanket. I used fondant for the crib sides and header and footer. For the sides, I measured a piece of fondant 13.5 inches long and approx 5" tall. I used my cookie cooling sheet that had straight lines to use as a template to cut out the slats. I cut every other one. For the header and footer I used a piece of fondant that was 1/2 thick so it would stand up. Warning: this takes a good week to dry! Even then you may have to throw it in a low oven to help dry. Hope this makes sense. PM me if you need clarification. .
