You see i am heading up to Pittsburg from Georgia to meet some friends. So i wanted to bring them a cake. Is it possible to keep it edible? I'm leaving at 5 probably ganna get there at 7 and i will probably make it covered so when i get there i can cover it in ice with a trashbag. Is it possible to last 12 hours in a car?
Maybe if i use a mixture of some dry ice and regular ice?
I was thinking to make that long trip ust a plain vanilla cake with butter cream and covered in fondant.
I just drove from Phoenix to Utah with a cake. Here is what I did. I went to Home Depot and got one of their packing boxes - they're really nice and sturdy and they come in all sizes up to like an 18 inch diameter..
I put the cake on a board that had legs, THIS IS IMPORTANT, cuz when you try to pick up the cake it could crack if the board buckles at all. Putting legs on it makes it easier to pick-up.
Then cut two of the sides so it'll fold down like a door. Place the no-slip waffle stuff ont he bottom of the box. Slide the cake in, then tape up the sides of the box.
The box needs to be in an airconditioned part of the car and as long as you keep the car cool, it should be okay. Bring some extra frosting in a cooler jsut in case. ![]()

I would think an air conditioned car would be fine unless the cake needs to be refridgerated. If it is in a carrier of some sort and you have a long stop (lunch at a resteraunt instead of a drive through) just carry it in with you - then it will still be in the airconditioning. Just make sure it is not in direct sunlight as this can cause your colors to change. I took a cake to my mom 2 hours away without covering it and my purple flowers were blue when we got there. Luckily she likes blue too. Good luck.
