I need help ASAP. I'm making candy clay for the first time for a cake tomorrow. Used the recipe found on CC (candy melts + corn syrup). followed directions to a T, and the end result looks grainy and is "leaking" chocolatey fluid everywhere. Is this normal? Will it get malleable tomorrow? What's up?

It sounds like it has seized (somehow got water/steam into it). You can add a little bit of shortning to it and reheat it - stir it and it should fix it.

Candy Clay looks gross when you first make it. It is suppose to rest over night so it can set back up.

I recently made some for the first time, and I did let it sit for a day to set up. Then I cut off a large piece to work with, and I microwaved it for a few seconds and then started kneeding it, and it was just fine. And it is fun to work with, too. icon_smile.gif

I agree with the pp, I really thought that I had messed up bad with the candy clay when I made it... but I let it rest and the microwaved it and kneaded it and it worked perfectly!

Sounds to me that you haven't let it set to harden as yet. When you first mix the melted chocolate and corn syrup it does look grainy and is very oily. Flatten it out between some plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 2 hours or more. I will become very hard. After it set you need to knead it several times until the clay becomes very pliable and dull in color.

I think you will be fine.
