Yes, I saw that too. They are having a "Cake-off" and the wedding cake challenge. They might be repeats. There was another one on wedding cakes too that looked good. Most of the shows are on Saturday and Sunday evenings. I set the tivo to tape a bunch of them!

Inspired.
I find after watching these programs I am both inspired and depressed. Wishing my skills were better, but inspired there may be hope for success, yet.
I get really depressed as well because I'm just starting and wonder how the heck am I ever going to be that good???
There is so much talent out there and I don't know if I have potential to be half as good as others.
Fear of the unknown scares me. But I guess if you don't try, you'll never know right?
Those shows are inspiring though.
I love watching these shows. They inspire me so much that it always makes me want to go out there and compete where I can. It gives me so much ideas and would love to try these ideas right away. It really does not make me feel "unskilled", instead it challenges and motivates me to try and do what they can . Can't wait !!! ![]()

I love those cake shows on Food Network. But after I watch I get depressed. Most times I think of myself as a pretty good cake decorator, and then I see the work of someone like Collette Peters or Toba Garrett and I realize just how good I am NOT. We can all hope to achieve such great heights with our skills. But darn, it is so much work trying to get there! ![]()
I understand both feelings. I get so excited and I love watching the shows. At the same time, it makes me want to learn and I really learn best from watching and doing - I'd love to take more classes, but there aren't really any offered here beyond the Wilton III. There is one cake teacher here but she charges $25 per hour w/ a 6 hr. minimum and she only does classes during the week - during the time I work my full-time job. I want to go to the Wilton school so badly - and I want to go to ICES - but alas, I don't live near the Wilton school or where the ICES convention is this year and everything costs so much! Not that it wouldn't be worth the money - but you gotta have the money to start with! Oh well.... someday. Until then I'm trying to learn from here, from books, and from watching the Food Network!! ![]()

You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it! All that I know about cakes I taught myself. I have never taken a cake course ever. I went to culinary school but the caliber of sugar work that is done now and seven years ago-Does not compare! We never even touched on sugar or cake decorating. we did breads and pastries like danish. I wanted to pull sugar so I just tried and and love doing it!
You know, each of us has a unique potential. I think there are people here at CC that have the potential to reach the status of a Toba or a Collette. Others (like me), will just impress friends and family--and have lots of fun doing it.
