Wilton does not make a luster dust,

Check your packaging and see if it is Pearl dust, or Sparkle dust.

Pearl dust can be used similiar to luster dust, but sparkle dust is just for sprinkling on for decoration.

You are right it says Elegant Shimmer Dust. Is there a difference?

ahh Shimmer dust (it is the equivelant to sparkles of other brands) yes there is a big difference!

if you do a search of the forums there are quite a few topics that explain the difference between

Luster Dust
Pearl Dust
Petal Dust
Shimmer Dust

I am just getting off of lunch so I don't have time to look up the other topics, but maybe someone else might know the link a little more quickly than I do.

HTH

Sorry i can't help more atm.

Yes there is a big difference. I have used luster dust to paint. i used a eye dropper to add the liquid to the dust so that it would be think enough to paint with. if you look in my photos and the one that is a book I painted silver luster dust on it and it is buttercream icing. I have used the shimmer dust before but it disolcves into the buttercream. Jen

There is a huge difference between their shimmer dust and actual luster dust.

Luster dust is a fine dust that goes on dry or with vanilla or alcohol. The gold and silver actually dry metallic and it's wonderful to work with. It comes in an assortment of colors.

Wilton's shimmers don't do any of that. They dry textured and grainy, and don't dry with a metallic finish. They just have a completely different finish than luster or pearl dust.

Hope that helped,
Angie

Thanks for the question... I have some Wilton dust stuff and was going to use it the same way millicente is trying to...

If I can find the receipt... I'm taking it back. From what you are saying I need the real stuff to paint with.

I recently used the wilton gold dust-it came in a 3 pack with gold and another color. Is that the one you guys are refering to??? I "painted" with it and it worked okay but not great. I used a paintbrush and painted it on dry. No water or alcohol, just dry. The dust was kinda electro-staticly attached to the brush.
