Can I mix luster dust into royal icing (or buttercream)? I'm afraid that painting it on would ruin the royal icing and would like to make shimmering flowers out of royal icing.
Any help appreciated!

I've never tried that, but I've read that it doesn't work to incorporate the luster dust with icings. I have made lots of things w/ royal icing and painted them successfully. I've painted them w/ luster dust and vodka (or actually whatever liquor I have on hand) and I've painted w/ gel or paste colors w/ vodka. I've also maded royal icing flowers and then just dusted them w/ luster dust after the royal icing has dried. HTH icon_smile.gif

You will lose all the luster if you add it in. If the flowers are dry, then dry brushing it or painting it on will not ruin them - I do it all the time.
