Hello,

I'm new to this site and have fallen in love with it. What a wealth of information. I was wondering if anyone knows much about food allergies, specifically nuts. I need to know if a person with nut allergies can eat food (cake) with almond flavoring. So many wedding cake recipes use it, but I have never tried it. I would think that an extract would be more dangerous, but what about just artificial flavoring. I have searched the internet and can't find any information. I have a nephew would is deathly allergic to peanuts so I am very careful with my baking, but I'd like to try something with almond flavoring for the family.

Thanks for your help.

you should call the manufacturer. it is is derived from nuts, you might still have issues.

peanut allergies can be among the worst in terms of reactions. the flavor differential isn't worth the risk.

You said this was family, but I also wanted to say I wouldn't recommend anyone attempt to make a cake that they sell as nut-free. The liability would be incredible, unless you can prove your home and all ingredients and utensils used never have ever had contact with anything containing nuts or possibly containing nuts. If you even have peanut butter in your house . . .
