My SIL has called me this morning from work and asked me if I could do a Starburst Cake. I thought she meant a cake for the 4th of July or something that looked like it had stars bursting out of the top but NO she wanted a cake with Starburst candies. She said she didn't know if the candies went on the outside or were baked into the cake. I have never heard of this kind of cake. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much!!!

maybe she's referring to the confetti type of cakes. I am not sure about baking a cake with the candies in it, but you could probably do the confetti cake and decorate with the candies around it.

I just did a search and there was a recipe on www.marsbrightideas.com. It seems these are jelly beans. LOL

Fearlessbaker, I also searched and found that same cake with the jellybeans but I think she is wanting the square candies. I wonder what would happen if I made a sheetcake, put bc icing on it and then arranged the candies so that the cake looked like a baby blanket? But I wondered what would happen to the candies after they sat on the bc icing for a while. Would they start to get soft from the sugar breaking down? Please Help Me!

Dordee,

For the confetti cake, you can either buy a box mix (I believe Pillsbury makes it) or you can make your own yellow or white recipe cake mix with colorful sprinkles folded into the batter after it is mixed, before you put it in the pan. I am taking a stab at my memory for this part because I read it somewhere. Please let me know if there's anything else that I can help with. I will continue to do a search for you for good recipes.

The more I think about it the more I would like to do the baby blanket type cake but I still worry about the sugars in the candies breaking down and bleeding and looking all yucky. What do you all think, will this probably happen? I think I will call my SIL back and ask her if this friend has eaten one of these cakes before and see if she can tell me if the candies were on the inside or the outside.

There is a thread on here somewhere that cakemommy said she has made roses out of starbursts. She said she just did them like you would out of candy clay. Also, my friend made some roses out of bubble tape that came out really pretty. icon_lol.gif

They are the square candies that are wrapped up in wax papers and then sold in a yellow package.

I too am interested in finding out how to make roses out of Starburst candies. If anyone finds that thread or wants to post instructions on here, that would be great.

I do them like a gumpaste rose. I microwave the starburst/tootsie roll/ any candy like that and roll them flat. from there I use my wilton gumpaste rose cutter and do them the same way.
