Hello Everyone!! I have a couple of questions. I am making my sisters's wedding cake June 17th. (First Wedding cake)

1). How many mixes will I need for a 12" round pan?

2). How much would all double layers 12" 10" 8" round cakes serve?

And I thought I had another, but it has not come to me yet. Maybe I will have to do another post!

The following page on wilton should answer most of your questions. I would recommend measuring your batter since mixes differ by brand and type as to how much they make.

Good luck!

2 1/2 for 12" 1 1/2 for 10" 1 for 8"

12"=45 10"=30 8"=15 (90)
also try http://www.earlenescakes.com/ckserchart.htm
servings make more sense to me I started out with the wilton chart but always ran short so I switched to Earlenes chart works better for me

Are you using a box mix? I put about 3 lbs of batter in a 12" pan. This is a little over one box mix.

12-10-8 will serve about 90 people if you don't serve the top. You will need about 6 boxes of cake mix for this.

Thank you very much for the help! I have had a dream the night before last that I ruined my sisters cake. I hate the stress this adds!

HA HA I know what you mean. I dream all the time that I have forgotten someone's cake and don't have time to make one.

Here's a mind trick you can play on yourself. Imagine yourself - try dreaming about this - ruining your sisters wedding dress. Sounds crazy, yes, but she would be much more upset about her dress than her cake getting ruined. So, when your doing the cake, your mind will be less stressed, you'll relax and both the cake - and the dresss - will be perfect.

I know it's crazy, but it might help you relax.

Good luck on your first wedding cake! I will also be doing a wedding cake on that day but for a small wedding.

Anyway...I usually fill my pans about 2/3 full and trim off the excess. It gives me a nice flat bottom. I seem to always buy more mixes than I need...but I always end up using them! icon_smile.gif

I find that Duncan Hines mixes work really well for wedding cakes. icon_smile.gif

You girls are great! Always so helpful! I love that idea. I agree, she would be way more upset about the dress for sure. Much more expensive!!! I am very excited about doing her cake. I have such a huge to do list. I got the idea off here someone had posted about transfering the cakes in the car-someone suggested buying storage totes putting rubber non slip mats on lid(used as base) and cover with top to transfer, so I got all that. I just want to do the cake get it done and enjoy it!! Including any comments I will receive and maybe even new business!!! Thanks again for the support!!
