I am making luster dusted pearls for a cake. Do I put the luster dust on before I adhere the pearls to the cake or do I add the luster dust after the pearls are afixed to the cake?

I roll my 'pearls' in the dust before attaching them to the cake.

I brush it on before. I don't see how you wouldn't get it all over the place if you do it after they are on the cake!
