I have done a search for this and I think I understand the directions but can you ice the pillow in buttercream instead of fondant???

I have not tried a pillow cake yet - can't wait to try - but I would assume you could use buttercream. I'd give it a good crumb coat, then ice it. Wait till it crusts really good then imprint - or what ever your plan was.

also I am curious if you can make the tassles out of royal icing? MMMM!!

I can't wait to try this cake!!! After I get through Fathers Day weekend I won't have any cakes for awhile so I plan to try the pillow then.

I would use fondant for the tassels. Royal icing is going to break at least with fondant you can make a design with it. Plus you can use a clay gun to help make the tassles strings for you.

hope this helps.

Hey Alicia,
Use a clay gun or a garlic press would also work depending on the size of the strings you want for your tassels. Can't wait to see your post.
