Hi everyone!!!!

I have a question...I will be making a stacked cake with 14, 10 & 6 inch layers.

I'm wondering exactly how thick of a board do I need underneath it? I'm wanting to do a board and wrap the outer edge with gold ribbon.

I will be transporting the cakes individually. I will be stacking & assembling at the reception site. The cake will not be moved while on the board.

Any one have any ideas? Thanks!!

I usually go with plywood just to be on the safe side!!! A normal 3/4 inch plywood would look really nice with a ribbon around the edge....just cover the board in some type of contact paper, wall paper, or foil cake board covering.

I use 1/2 inch foamcore for large stacked cakes need custom boards. It runs $4.99/ 20x30 sheet at Michael's. I also glue a piece underneath so that the board sits up off the table a bit and I can get my hands under it to pick it up. The 1/2 inch edge is great for putting ribbon around. You can cover it with contact paper, foil, fabric covered with contact paper, etc. and it's still cheap enough that if it gets left behind, damaged, etc. that it doesn't hurt your wallet too much.
