Every time I bake an 8 x 3 cake I end of with a big crater in the middle. How do I avoid this in the future? I know I can fill in the hole with frosting but why is this happening and is there something I can do to make it not happen anymore? thanks. sunflowerfreak

Bake at 325, center of the oven. Use Wilton's Bake Even strips (wet) or strips of wet towels around the cake pan. Some people like to put in on a cookie sheet. I've never tried that, but will. Test for doneness with a long piece of dry spaghetti in the center. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have often had the same problem. It occurs when I open the oven even a minute too soon to test for doness. A couple of things really helped me with the problem. I put an inverted flower nail in the center of the pan. I also use the bake even strips and after many attempts I know just how long to bake and not to open the oven too soon!
