Every time I bake an 8 x 3 cake I end of with a big crater in the middle. How do I avoid this in the future? I know I can fill in the hole with frosting but why is this happening and is there something I can do to make it not happen anymore? thanks. sunflowerfreak

If the cake is sinking in the middle after you take it out, It probably isn't baked long enough. What temp are you baking at?

EDITED TO ADD:
The main causes of a sinking cake are:
-over mixing
-under baking
-over filling pan (leading to underbaking)

Try using less batter or baking longer at a lower temperature.

GOOD LUCK

Maybe your cake pan is too small for the amount of batter you're using? The cake will fall in the middle while baking if this is the case! Also, make sure you preheat your oven. Hope this helps!
