first there is not way you could frost all those tiny cakes in buttercream..

use a poured fondant or dip in chocolate

I would do the sheet cake.

i will never make petite fours again!! They were messy and I tried like 3 different recipes of icing and they were either too thick or too runny!

So wish I could help! If you learn the secret of makin pretty petite fours, let me know! icon_smile.gif

If you make a cake in a jellyroll pan you can cut it to make smaller cakes. As for frosting with buttercream, it will take a while. I did egg petit fours for easter and they turned out well. I crumb coated in buttercream and then used a poured fondant. I finished tham off with royal icing. You can PM me for the poured fondant reipe. It worked well for me, you just need to keep it warm to be thin enough to pour on.

The sheetcake would definitely be easier. When I do petit fours, I can get about 35 out of one batch, using a 12x17 jellyroll pan. I put a thin layer of buttercream on top, then dip in chocolate (see pics). Unless she only wants buttercream only on top, it's going to take forever. If you dip in dark chocolate and use royal decorations, it almost looks black and white (again see my pics).
