When making a bunch of gumpaste roses what kind of assembly method do you use. I've tried cutting out a bunch of petals at once and covering them with plastic wrap, but they still seem to dry out. I have just been doing a few at a time and it is going to take FOREVER to make 60 roses!!

Thanks
Jen

Use heavy upholstery plastic cut to desired size (2 pieces, tape one end to make a flap). This keeps the air out much better than plastic wrap. Also, you can places a damp towel or washcloth over the plastic cover and this really works great to keep the gumpaste fresh.

yes 60 roses will take forever... that is why you charge more.

i dont know if it is the same with gumpaste but for my fondant ones i put them directly on my counter top and put plastic wrap over it while pushing all the air out. i have left the petals under there for at least an hour.

i usually cut all i can out of what i roll out then peel the excess out instead of picking the petals out, this way the petals are still on the counter with no air under them. Then i get my plastic wrap and "seal" them onto the counter. works for me hth

1. Mix fondant and gumpaste 1/2 and 1/2...it doesn't dry out as quickly and the roses aren't as brittle as they are with full gumpaste. You can roll it just as thinly as you can 100% gumpaste
2. Cut out enough petals for 1 rose and put them under heavy plastic...you can get this at a fabric store
3. Don't use cornstarch...use Crisco to roll out the gumpaste. Only use cornstarch (very sparingly) on the foam to ruffle/soften the edges of the petals. The roses dry just as fast as when you use cornstarch.
