Hi, I am so glad I found yall! I love forums, but I havent participated in awhile because of a bad experience on anouther forum, but Im ready to jump back in. I really missed haveing friends online! Heres a little about me.
My name is Valerie, I am a SAMH of 2, and step mom of 2 more. I am an animal lover, I have a pekingese named Peek-A-Boo, and a half fiest, 1/4 pug,1/4shitzu mix named bobo. You will see them all, lol, I love showing them off! I love to crochet.

I got the earge to decorate cakes kind of sudenly, they moved the yarn isle directly across from the cake decorateing stuff in walmart, I think it was a conspiracy! Anyway, I baught most of what they had in walmart for cake decorateing, and ordered the wilton practice board (should be here any day) and I plan to take a class starting in july. In the mean time though, I have started practicing, keep in mind that I have no one to help me, and havent had any classes, etc. I really need yall to be very critical! My first one was a stacked cake, it has blue and green buttercream underneath the fondant, but they both looked alot like puke, lol, so I covered em up. It wasent so bad, except I had wrinkles on the sides and a few tears. the 2nd one was much better, I think. its a flower, in case you cant tell, lol. Im going to try to figure out how to attatch them, but just in case I cant, they will be in my photos....

Great job, it is soooo hard to cover a cake with fondant... Good work, you should be proud of yourself!

Hi Valerie,

I just finished course III and loved it. For your own sake, don't try to learn too many things at once. It can be frustrating. It took me a long time to just get my icing smooth. Since you don't start your class until July, I would just maybe practice some borders, smoothing your icing and maybe experimenting with your tips. You will do great!! You have already tried fondant and it took me so long to even get up the nerve to attempt it!! Good luck and happy baking!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you, I am so guilty of doing this, not just with cake decorateing, but with everything I do! lol. My wilton practice board should be here today or tomorow, and I had planned on just doing that till my class started, but my step daughter has asked me to make her b-day cake on the 16th. I am going to start practiceing today. I am going to post in a sec for ideas...

Hi, and welcome! You must be pretty talented. You just pick up cake decorating and already you are doing pretty well! Keep practicing. I'd love to take some classes, too, I just haven't been able to yet.
You'll have to post your class cakes as you do them.

I crochet, too. I haven't made too much, since I'm teaching myself out of a book, but it's lots of fun. Hope to see more of your work!

Thanks! I learned to crochet from a bood as well. I had always wanted to do it, but im just not a crafty person so I assumed I wouldent be able to do it, but I guess you jsut have to pick the right craft's icon_wink.gif

a few ideas.....
while learning the diferent stitches, make long scarves, but make sure they are all the same lengths(diff width is ok) , once you have several, sew them togeather and you have a striped blanket of you learning experience. I did this with my 8yo step daughter and she was thrilled! If you need any help you can e-mail me ( [email protected] ) I have some very good websites I would love to share.
