Interesting. I never thought of royal icing. I agree, they need to dry realllly long.
I let them set for over 24 hrs. They never did fully dry on the outside let alone the inside. I couldn't turn them out either, because they stuck to the mold. Now, these molds are just the plastic chocolate molds that you can get anywhere. I got them in the hopes of being able to use the royal icing. Appreciate all the help. Thanks!!!!
Knowing what I think I know about royal icing, I'd think that you'd have to let them dry for a very, very long time--a week or more. They'd actually have to dehydrate and shrink away from the mold walls before they'd come out--if they'd come out. If you grease the molds, it will break down the royal and cornstarch would just get absorbed into the icing.
I think to get this to work you'd have to essentially ruin the molds by perforating them with small pinpricks so that air could get at the icing from both sides--and it would still take a long time for them to dry completely.
Just my .02

Let me know if you try to dry the royal icing in a 200 degree oven.
I made the error of rushing fondant. The fondant stuck to my pan. I didn't cornstarch/parchment...
Actually, I forgot about them... about 3 hours.. lol I stuck the pan in a tub of hot water and hope it just melts away. :0
