with Royal Icing on a vertical surface of fondant? Did that make sense? LOL.
I'm making college mascots for my dad's retirement cake. I have each one wearing the colors of their school. I really don't want to make the tiny letters out of fondant, but was thinking that Royal would do it. Will it stick and dry hard?

I make mine on wax paper taped to foam board with lettering under it .( I run off lettering on computer paper) Basically I trace it with royal or thick colorflow then after it is dry I transfer it to the cake. Make an extra for breakage. I haven't stuck it to the side of a cake yet though, but I would imagine you could use gel or icing to do that. Hopefully this make sense. Maybe someone else has ideas also.

How does it work with little Print letters (maybe less than .5 in) on a surface that isn't totally flat?

It sure would be easier your way. I thought of something like that, but didn't know if it woudl work.

Mine were one inch. I think they do it with things pretty tiny, like lace. Have you seen where they do lace points and things like that? I used a no.2. for mine. It should stick to the side especially if they are smaller. Whatever you decide to stick it on with should fill in the back. I think it should work. Now Im going to have to try it on the side. icon_smile.gif

I have added lace points by using little dots of royal icing and it holds them on the fondant but I haven't tried letters. If your pieces need support until the royal sets try using dressmakers pins to hold them on the side.

I just decided to use the fondant and make little snakes into letters. That worked well enough!
