it won't be gross. You can mix a little of the seedless jam with your buttercream or just use the jam plain. Definately use seedless or you'll have crunchy filling thumbs_up.gif

Of course you can. I have one client that this is all her family wants as fillings in all their cakes. I use a seedless raspberry or even blackberry jam plain just make sure you use a good icing dam around the outside of your cake to make sure it doesn't by accident seep out. thumbs_up.gif

Do you have to prep the cake with anything before spreading the jam on it? I am just thinking of how disgusting peanut butter and jam sandwiches are if they're made a few hours prior to eating them. Do you know what I mean? If you don't put peanut butter on both slices of bread, the jam will somehow make the bread mushy and crunchy at the same time. Will it do the same thing to the cake?

Someone (sorry?) recommended putting a thin layer (crumb coat) on first and then putting on the jam.

I add seedless raspberry jam to my fav. BC to taste and then use that to fill. Yummy!

Out of sheer laziness, I always use jam for my fillings when people want fruit. They always love them! It also works well to make them 3 layer (torte one of your cakes) and add pudding to 2 layer and jam to the 3rd- a winner everytime!
Oh ya, I do buy high quality ones though, and like mine to be more of the "homemade, small business" onesicon_smile.gif
And YES I do put alayer (very thin) of buttercream- but only on the boom of each layer, I haven't had any issues!
