Baking The 3D Duck Cake... Do I Really Need To Tie W/string

or wire, ,like it says?

has anyone just plopped the cake in the oven without making sure that the rising cake doesn't burst open the pans?

I really wanted to make this cake today, but can't get out of the house and don't know what else I can use as a replacement...

I've made it but not without something securing it. I had no wire or string so I took a metal coat hanger untwisted it and wrapped it around the duck and secured it the best I could. Good Luck!

I don't tie...I just weigh the top down by putting something on top of it. I've been using a stoneware deep dish baking pan that I kind of prop off to one side.

Thanks ladies... Lisa, would you think that using something other than stoneware would work? I've got a round pyrex cassarole dish that I could use. Unfortunately, we don't have any wire hangers... (oh... I feel "so Joan Crawford," in Mommy Dearest.) icon_surprised.gif

I think any dish that was oven safe and wouldn't slip off would work.

Dear "Mommy Dearest",
You gave me my chuckle for the day! I don't have wire hangers in the house either! I do have a ball of jute string that I've used on many times in a pinch, including to tie my turkey on Thanksgiving. Good luck with your ducky!
