I am making a full sheet cake for the elementary school graduation (my son is in the class), and I want to do an edible image of the whole class. I have great picture, but it won't take up much room on the cake. Would it look really bad if I added this as an edible image also?? TIA...

I should have said, the names of everyone in the graduating class are listed down the diploma in alphabetical order, beside that with the writing turned says Class of 2006. (I don't know why the pic didn't show that). In the red ribbon it says Troy School, and on the bottom Congratulations!

I think it will look good! Put it on one side, and the picture on the other!
It will be the perfect touch!

I think it would look really cute next to the picture.
(Though I might go with less bright colors than those shown)

Thanks! Their school colors are blue and yellow, and bright, or else I would HAVE TO agree with you coffeecake!!

This is the class picture that I am going to put on the cake. Every year, the 6th grade class goes to a week long camp together, and this picture was taken there. It's my son's favorite picture! I added the frame and text of course....

Thatt's not a lot of kids (nice graphic, by the way) - how about adding their names under the "just graduated" portion of the graphic? I think that would look terrific.

I didn't think of that, but it's a good idea!! I just don't know if the picture will be big enough, or if it will look stupid. My 12 year old son took the pic!

OK, so how is this? And do I still add the diploma with their names on it?

Thank you! I did double check with their "class advisor" a little while ago, and the blue and yellow are what they want! It doesn't matter if I do the diploma AND the pic, or just the pic, as long as I have blue and yellow somewhere!!
imakecakes - which way? Just the pic with the names?? I really like it that way, my only concern is size.....the cake is a full sheet cake, and I just don't want too much empty space! I am afraid if I blow the pic up too much, it will completely lose quality...make sense?

Do you have the option to poster print with your printer? If you do, you can print the photo (same quality) larger.

How about writing the names of the kids scattered around the picture, written in blue and yellow?

Just a thought.... icon_wink.gif

If my handwriting was better, that would be a great idea!! I just don't think I could handle 22 names.... As for poster print, I don't have that option.....

I like the second option as well, but I would do the names a lighter color. You could make all of the text on the picture yellow to incorporate that color, that might be a good way to tie it in.

You could also type their names with a color border around each and cut them out , then scatter them on the cake. I can send you a photo of what I mean if you would like.

That would be great, but I don't have an edible image printer, so it costs me $6 per sheet to have printed. If there is a way to get it all on one sheet, then I am all for it! I can't wait to get this cake done...

Oh ok, I thought you had one. In that case I like the photo with the names on it (2nd option) Maybe you could spray the background yellow and put blue borders on it to tie in the school colors.

HAHA! I was thinnking the same thing but opposite colors, Bigcats! Blue cake with yellow borders and names. Writing the kids names scattered around the cake would be a good way to use up the space, too. Besides, kids always want to "eat their name" when it's on a cake. This way, they are seperated a bit, so that would be possible. make sense?

I will definately post a picture when it's done! It might be in the worst cake category, but it'll be posted! LOL I can try the names written on, I am just afraid I will screw up!! The last time I did writing on a cake, it got all swirly on me and I can't figure out why......(The beach cake, pic is posted in my gallery) I can't imagine 22 names coming out that way! But I do LOVE the idea of writing their names on it...hmmm.........decisions, decisions! LOL I still like my scroll too though..

Funny thing is, I will get all these ideas, have the exact design in my head, but once that decorating bag is in my hand, the ideas are out and I do something I hadn't even thought of!!

It's funny how that usually happens more times than not! It's your creative juices flowing once your hands get on that pastry bag!!
