Hi,
Well this is the week I"m baking my son's wedding cake, Saturday is the big day. Never done this before. The one final concern I have is this: Will the tall tier cake stand hold up the wedding cake????
I'm concerned because I myself glued the 6 legs onto the bottom 14-inch plate, and not the factory. I used extra strong glue for plastics and the legs seem OK. But...what if the legs break off under the weight of the the 4 tiers?
Is this a valid concern? Should I try to find something to put under the 14-inch plate, to bolster the legs? Or am I worried needlessly?
Help!
Linda, mom of groom
Hi Linda,
You should be fine. I have only done one wedding cake on my tall tier stand and it was only a three layer cake. I worried too, but it was very strong and held the weight.
Just make sure that you tell the reception staff not to cut the cake on the stand, it will fall over! It is okay for the bride and groom to make their traditional cut but I would not cut and serve dirctly on the stand while it is still assembled. Have them take it apart after the bride and groom cut the cake.
Can't wait to see your pictures!!
When I glued the same legs on, I wasn't happy with them either. I took them off. Then I used the hot glue gun on the legs. I had no problem. BUT, you may want to put something under the plate, then cover it with rumpled up tablecloths, like satin ones.
Candyladyhelen,
Do you have any suggestions as to what I might put under the plate to help it be more stable? I was looking at some styrofoam--the kind you would use for floral arrangements--today, wondering if that would give a little support. But maybe that would not be strong enough.
Hmm...now I am wondering if I should take off the legs and re-glue them onto the plate with a hot glue gun.
Linda
