I need some help!! Below is a picture of a practice cake I made for my sister's bridal shower. She kind of has the double heart theme (invitations, toasting glasses etc). Bridemaid's dresses are lavender. I had a picture in my head of a stacked cake with the double hearts around the sides with ribbon around the base. But, I don't like how the hearts look!! icon_cry.gif I added the cornelli lace after I finished and didn't like how it turned out (minor improvement thumbs_up.gif first time doing cornelli lace - need practice) I know I want the color lighter and maybe if I make the hearts smaller it will look better.

I used luster dust mixed with vanilla and added a little bit of gel color and painted the heart outline on a stamp and then lightly pressed the stamp on the fondant to get consistent sizes. Then painted in the hearts.

Any suggestions? What can I do differently to make the hearts?

I like the cake just the way it is. I think the hearts are lovely! The cornelli lace is also very nice. Sorry I couldn't suggest anything but I love it. thumbs_up.gif

I made entwined hearts by cutting out two hearts in fondant. I have a picture of it in the gallery. It's the green bridal shower cake. The hearts were colored with silver highlighter mixed with lemon extract. You might like that look a little better.

I like VickiC's suggestion. I think a 3-D effect like that would be really nice.

If you don't want to do fondant hearts, you could pipe them with royal icing then paint them with luster or pearl dust when dry. You can pipe them right onto the cake.

In my photos, there's a wedding cake on which I used this technique. I piped royal icing flowers, then painted them with lavender pearl dust mixed with lemon extract.

BTW, I love the cornelli lace. You're a pro at it already!

What about making the hearts in candy melts (you can color them or just use white) or chocolate - even one white and one chocolate. Then they will be a raised, so you will have a little depth - and you can make large ones for on top (maybe even adding names or intials) Also, you can do them ahead of time and know they have turned out ok.

Thanks everyone!! Can always count on CC when I need a pick me up. thumbs_up.gif I was so disappointed when it didn't look like I wanted it to.

I'm thinking I might like the 3-D effect. I'm going to make some 3-D hearts and see which I like best. I'll keep reading though, just in case any other suggestions come up.

For what it's worth, I like the cake the way it is, too!
