Can anybody tell me what the best buttercream icing would be for using the mats and does it need to be thick for the impressions to show up ??

It has to be a crusting buttercream, but that's about all I really understand about it. I have trouble getting mine not to stick even with the crusting buttercream.

I've only used the impression matt once so far. It worked great. I use the all crisco buttercream, so it crusts over really well.

As long as the buttercream has had time to crust, there shouldn't be a problem with it sticking. I usually try to wait at least an hour after icing the cake to use the mats, and have never had a problem. Good luck!

I used the Crusting Buttercream (Faux Fondant) from Cake Central's recipe files. It is a very aggressive cruster. Even so, I had a couple places where I got sticking. But, all in all...it worked great!
