Looking for some advice here...

My mother is dieting (she needs it. was diagnosed with heart trouble last year), so she has restricted her sweets and cakes intake a lot these last months. As in, usually she only takes one spoonful of a cake or dessert, just enough to taste.

However, with her upcoming birthday, I would like to make a cake where she can eat a little more since it's her birthday and everything icon_smile.gif But I would still like to keep the calories down where possible.

I'm not expecting a "diet cake" but I want to get away from the butter + sugar buttercream...

I'm planning to do a small 3-layer cake. She's asked for a lot of fruit, and I will use cherries and strawberries for decoration, with some kind of chocolate sponge cake for the base

Do you have any suggestions for frosting? I want it to hold the shape and have access to a fridge. Also, wouldn't mind some kind of suggestions for filling

thanks in advance!

What about the whipped frosting? Not sure on nutritional information.

I used to make an angel food cake that I torted and used a mix of raspberry jello/cool whip for the filling and the frosting. I also sprinkled in some frozen or fresh raspberries between the layers and on top. You could also use the low fat cool whip and mix or substitute the fruit.
