I need help!!! Does anyone know a good recipe for whipped cream frosting??? I am making a strawberry shortcake and I wanted to use the Whipped Cream. I tried to make it yesterday with Gelatin but it came out very lumpy. I am not sure what I did wrong... HELP!!! Also, How long does the whipped cream last?? Can you color it like buttercream?? Anyone with a little info would be a big help!!!
Thanks

When I make my strawberry shortcake (pictured in my gallery) I use 2 c heavy whipping cream, 1/3 c. powdered sugar and 1/2 ts. vanilla and whip it good!! icon_smile.gif

I've never tried to put any color in it though! As far as how long it lasts? I use the expiration date on the whipping cream

I too make traditional whipped cream with my strawberry shortcake. You can color it with gel colors, by adding the color before you begin whipping. Cool whip works well too, and that's easily colored, just like icing. Just make sure you don't whip it too much because it'll lose its fluffiness.

Thanks. So if I make it like you said, whip it good and put in on the cake and refridgerate it, it should be OK for Tuesday night?

I am planning on icing the whole cake with the whipped cream. Actually Missy, I am doing a cake that you have in your gallery with the USMC logo. Will that be OK to put on the whipped cream?

..I have never put an image on whipped icing. I have always been afraid to put an image on a "loose" type of icing, such as whipped icing or cream cheese icing. Maybe someone else has tried that before and will let us both know!
