Ok hello...my name is Christi and I am a tip collector...errr addict...Everytime I am in the nearest HL or Michaels I pick up tips...I order tips online...I even look for tips at yard sales (which I did not frequent till my cake addiction). But my latest purchase was too goofy. I bought tips I had NO idea how to use but I thought I could learn how to use. I bought Ruffle tips this time almost all of them ..ruffle swag border tips, curved ruffle tips and a curved ruffle swag tip (well there is like 8 of them). How do I use these and did I make a bad investment?

Thank you icon_biggrin.gif

(oh yes, please be kind I know I do not know how to use these, but I am a ADDICT I am telling you a A D D I C T ) thumbs_up.gif

I can't help you with the ruffle tips but I've done the same thing - purchase tips I have NO idea what to do with, figuring it is a good excuse to learn.

From one top addict to another... icon_smile.gif

I still feel like I need more!

I have those pages printed off and in my cake folder -sometimes I just sit and look at the patterns. I really don't do much decorating with RI now so how sad is that? On holiday last year I visited an ironmongers and was fossicking about in the kitchen section and spotted a box packed with different tips and they were only 35p each - not bad quality but old stock they were looking to clear... so I went mad and picked out all the obscure ones that I didn't have, and doubled up on some I did,as here tubes cost about £2.50 / £3.00 for top quality.

Yes I think on the Country Kitchen site they have some that are 6 and 7 dollars a piece, they are probably really great tips but not feasable for me yet. I just pick up a few everytime Im in the city. So I can have bunches of them for some reason I think I have to hord tips LOL.

HA HA you guys are great....

I believe I have little gnomes who live somewhere in my house who like to make off with my tips and tools...oh and couplers, they LOVE couplers!!! Occasionally, they'll bring things back and place them in the exact drawer I emptied twice looking for it. They like to mess with me that way. So I find myself replacing what they have stolen frequently. Hmmmmm.....maybe I need to check Christi and Shelli's houses......

I had to tell you those stinkin' gnomes have struck again. icon_mad.gif I was down to the wire doing a doll cake for a friend of my DH. It was a freebie and I wasn't doing anything too elaborate, but I love to do my doll's in fondant because I love lustered fondant for the dress. Well I go to get my rolling pin out of the drawer and IT'S NOT There!!! I looked everywhere, called MIL (since she commonly puts away things not in the right place), she' hadn't seen it. Check cabinets, pantry, bedrooms, everywhere. Called my borrowers to see if was lent out, nope. Those lil @#$%* HAD to have taken off with it. I mean, it's a big ol' honkin' wood rolling pin!!!!! Where could it possibly be. I ended up using my small roller which was a huge P A I N!!! But I got the cake done, changed clothes, and out the door. Still haven't turned up the rolling pin though!!!

Dang it! Now I'm starting to think that you've got lil gnomies working for you bringing you all kinds of goodies. I need my rolling pin back please, ma'am! Or perhaps mizshelli has something to hide. IT'S A CONSPIRACY, I KNOW IT! Mischievous ones the whole bunch of you....and your little gnomes too!

Okay, Christi, I posted her. She was done in a bit of a hurry, but she still turned out pretty. She was my last cake of the weekend (thank goodness) and the rolling pin incident, by that point, almost sent me into full on freaked out panic mode.

Ok Sarah its in the AM and I hope the little gnomes bring me ALL the luster dust!!!!! You must spend a small fortune in that stuff!! Wow your cakes look amazing girl! The doll looks beautiful and the pirate cake WOW...that's all I can say! Does it take much luster dust to make them look so shiny? And can you put luster dust on BC at all?

The luster actually goes pretty far, but I do spend a reasonable amount on it just because I love love love using it. Especially on anything for a little girl. I need to start ordering them from here, because it would be cheaper than my cake supply store. As far as luster on butter cream, when I've tried to brush or paint it, I mess my icing, but I have read that you can use it in an airbrush maching (mixed with vodka or everclear.) Here's a link about an airbrush alternative that I will be making a trip to home depot (hopefully this week) to get. http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-2906343-.html#2906343

You know it's funny to see all the luster dust floating around my kitchen after I dust a cake like that doll. It looks like I'm having my own little personal party.

Thanks for the compliments....again! You're too sweet!

Oh Sarah I just read it and that is so cool!!!! When you get it will you luster dust something with it so we can find out if it really works pweety pweese....if you knew how far a lowes or a Home Depot was for me you'd know why I was asking you to do this LOL. And the luster dust around the kitchen thing.....Well I must be tink cause I pick up some sort of glitter EVERYWHERE I go...lol...looks like Im a fairy sometimes....I promise I am NOT the gnome icon_biggrin.gif

I sure will. I have a family cake this weekend for a niece, so I'll try it out then. Love family cakes for that reason, I can guinea pig them and they're just happy to get a cake for free. Lucky for me, I could practically walk to Home Depot from my house.
