How can I get gum paste designs to dry Godspeed(really fast)? Please help. Need rock hard designs by mother's day. I can't start the designs until Friday. Letting them air dry will not be enough time to get them as hard as I need them, are there any other techniques for drying gumpaste?
Thanks in advance,
Cynita
I haven't tried it but I hear that if you put it in the oven with the light on, it heats it up enough that it will help dry it out faster without cooking it...
Hope this helps...I'm sure some more experienced gumpaste artists will have better ideas though ![]()
no prob.
From what I have heard/read, you just don't want to dry it too fast or it will crack. Maybe the fan would do it too fast, I don't know...Some people have had problems with using a dehydrator because it works too fast but others do use one but turn it down low..
Okay, how long does the gum paste take to dry for everyone else? I am going insane waiting for it to dry for some lilies I am working on. I have ruined two beautiful sets of petals because they weren't dry enough. They have been drying since last saturday and today is wednesday. Did I not roll it thin enough??? This is the first time I have used satin ice gum paste. I usually use a paste made from a powder. I am pulling my hair out, which is not at all realistic on a lily. ![]()
I use the Satin Ice premade paste as well, and I don't find that it dries completely - well not by the time I use it anyway. I have heard people say after a week or so it will work - but that is much more planning than I usually put in! I am about to buy a dehydrator to help it out cause I really do like the workability of it. How thick are you rolling your petals? I usually do mine to a 7 setting on my pasta machine (that goes to 9).
I am not rolling it as thin as you are, so I am sad to hear that yours is not drying all the way either. I think I am going to have to go back to the other gum paste. No one eats the flowers anyway. I think I will try the oven light thing first, though, since I bought a tub of the satin ice. I have to make a lot of flowers for a wedding in the middle of JUNE which is why I am doing it now. Also, this is a hobby of mine, not a "job". I can't do this all day.
I put gumpaste in the dehydrator and didn't like the way it warmed/softened. My machine has only one setting (no low), so I propped the lid of the dehydrator on a block and that did the trick! The gumpaste dried quickly and did not get too warm and soft.
Hope this helps.
