Can I put the wire straight into the to of the cake after covering it with RI?
Does all of the wire that is in the cake need to be covered?
One more question....I've heard of straws being used too. Do i insert the straw then the coverd wire?

Thanks for your help cc'ers!! I've never done this before with the wires.

Do not stick the wire straight into your cake (despite the temptation to do so). Use a straw and stick it down in your cake, then insert the wire into the straw. Then, you will KNOW that your wire is not touching any part of the cake.

Forgive my ignorace on this icon_redface.gif ... Do i still coat the wire with RI? Do I need to do anything to the straw? should the straw be as long as the cake so no wire is touching? Thanks

I think there is something wrong, I went on another thread and it's like pages are missing. So I think the reason I don't know what you are talking about is because I have previous pages not showing up.

I think you're fine if you've coated your wire with RI. The straw method is for if it's not covered.

why is it bad to stick them into the cake????

oh and if you're doing the straw method.....you just stick a straw (which are food safe....drinking straws) into the cake and then stick the wire into the straw....when you remove the straw before eating the cake it will automatically pull out a plug of cake with it that the wire was actually in and you would then discard this piece of cake and straw....so you don't need to do anything to the wire......but I still wanna know.....why is it bad for the wire to touch the cake??

I think it's because it's not edible. I did read on another post that you could use stainless steel wire...guess you get that at the home improvement store?

Plenty of people, famous professionals included, just stick the wires right in, no covering, no straws. You will not kill anyone. Any precautions you take above that are even better - but don't lose sleep on if yo are not doing enough.

I'd be concerned about the moistness of the cake and filling, it might cause uncovered wires to rust.
