When using Satin Ice fondant and your doing swags do you add gumpast to it and does it effect the color very much. I have a wedding cake to do in a couple of weeks and I am really considering ordering Satin Ice, simply because it is an ivory cake and I have been having a hard time getting my MMF the right ivory color. Anyway there are swags on the cake just wondering about color change when adding gumpaste, maybe I am over analyzing!

I use Satin Ice, but I have never done swags, or mixed it with Gumpaste...so here's a bump!

I would mix it with either gumpaste, gum trag(sp?), gumtex or something like that. Satin Ice fondant is much softer to work with than other fondants. I can't compare it to MMF - I tried to make it once and it ended up in the trash!

You can do the swags with full fondant, but they are easier to work with if you use 50/50 with gumpaste. Yes, white gumpaste is going to lighten the ivory fondant. The SI ivory is pretty darn ivory, so maybe you can mix that with white fondant so that the cake and swags end up the same. Or use a dab of ivory color in the 50/50 mix to darken it back up.

I would suggest using the ivory gel and adding it to the gumpaste before adding it to your Ivory Satin ice.

Gumpaste will lighten any color you mix it with. You may want to try to match the gumpaste with gel coloring before adding it to your Satin Ice...

Coloring a small amount of gumpaste is easier than trying to color a big batch of 50/50...

If you add Tylose powder, you won't need the gumpaste and the color will not be affected.

Diane is correct. Knead in a half a teaspoon of Tylose powder or more if you want, to a cup size ball of satin ice fondant and the color stays the same. Your drapes will be nice.

Fondx Virgin white is a bit brighter than Satin Ice, it will change a bit when you add gumpaste, but not a lot. I have done swags with straight fondant and it works well, you just have to handle it carefully. I have also done pleated, stenciled cakes with straight fondant. If you look at this photo, the drapes are done in fondant and the roses in gumpaste, both dusted with Super Pearl luster and the color matched pretty well with the two types of paste.
