I'm not sure what I did, but I seem to have hundreds of tiny holes in my icing (buttercream with Crisco only) as I try to smooth it on. It's like I have tiny air holes all over. Did I not mix enough or too much? (I'm still very new to this!) I've not had this problem before. I ususally use half butter and half crisco, but this cake will sit out for some time in a classroom and it's hot in the school. Most of the cake will be covered with basketweave, but how do I fix the top?

Thanks!

It is most likely tiny air pockest in your icing. This is usually caused by beating the icing at too high a speed and it whips in air. On a KA, use the lowest speed you can possibly use without roughly running the motor. On mine it is 3. I think it can happen if it is beaten to long as well regardless of the speed. If you make an icing and find the air bubbles, you can beat the icing on a low speed after it is made to pop some of the bubbles, or just use your rubber spatula to kinda smash/flatten the frosting onto the side of the bowl to pop some of the bubbles. Good Luck.

Thank you! I am saving for the KA. I currently have the Walmart special. I did use the lowest speed, but I made a double batch this time, and it took awhile.
