I am trying to make a standing horse cake. I will use a small board with posts and cover the legs with gumpaste. Does anyone have any ideas about the head not falling off????
thanks

The head should be on it's own plywood board, connected to the body board with a thick dowel. Make sure all these dowels are screwed tightly through the boards, not just glued.

Okay, go to www.Saddlebred.com and look at some of those horses. Their heads are more "up-right" and so it would be easier to support, ie their neck goes straight up then the horsese head tucks. If you do one that looks like these horses, you could use Rice Crispies for the head, and keep the neck and body in all cake. (I have been planning on doing one like this for a LONG time, so I've put some thought into it) BUT, if the people want a low headed stock type, I have ZERO suggestions, as it would be hard to support that head and neck....It is bad enough with a real live horse, some of them have a ton of trouble balancing that head and neck..... (keep in mind a real horse bears 60% of its body weight on its "forehand" (ie front two legs) so it is a bit of a nightmare to have it work for a cake.....)
