Hi! My MIL and I did our first wedding cake. So now that Ive attempted a tiered cake I have a question. I looked back through some old post but really didnt find an answer to this.
When you go to stack a cake directly on top of each other what is the best way to do so so the dont muck up the sides? The cake we did we ran ribbon round the bottom so it didnt make a diffence. But for the next one any tip so do so without ruining your frosting?
THanks
Mara
Yes that was it---both!! Do you have any suggestions?
I just learned this trick and used it on one of my last cakes--- it works awesome!!! ![]()
Oh the things you can learn here!
WOW! I wish I would have know this before--what a great tip!
Just did my 1st stacked cake this weekend, First 3 layers went ok, but the last (top) layer didn't do so well. I put the layer on and tried to let gravity take it down, I guess I didn't make sure it was on the dowel far enough before letting go, because it started falling to the side, saved the cake, but it was way off center. I have a wedding in end of the month, so glad I did this as sort of practice, learned a few things. 1 - I will be putting my cakes in freezer to level off and put on board, my bottom layer was 12in and it cracked a little when I flipped it. 2- didn't cut my dowel short enough so it popped up thru top of cake 3 - make sure cake is on dowel long enough for gravity to do it's thing 4 - be careful when pushing cake to middle of table (mine slipped off the board and went directly into cake, leaving a huge hole). I'm going to post pic in my gallery, it's the chili pepper cake I did for our local festival.
Thanks for listening
Joanne
