The Deacon in my local church will be ordained into the priesthood on the 1st June, and for some strange reason, I found myself offering to do a cake for it as my gift to him!!!! Thought it would be just for family and friends, as there will be a 'parish do' the following day, but it has been suggested to me that there may be 400+ people there. AHEM!!!
Having had a lie down in a darkened room, I am now having further terrors about the design for this cake!! My idea is that I'll make the main cake, and then have cutting cakes to accommodate the huge numbers.
I had a look at some fantastic pictures here on CC, but cannot decide on the design. The man himself is terribly terribly traditional ..... borderline old-fashioned (with every due respect to those who are), and I don't know whether he would take umbrage at cutting into an 'altar' or 'missal' cake.
The main cake will be rich fruit, with marzipan & fondant ..... after that ... not sure. I would be very grateful for any advice or ideas for his cake .... and any thoughts on whether my initial idea of an altar/table with open missal (open at the page of the first mass he will say - edible image) and maybe candlesticks either side would be appropriate or not??
Many thanks,
Eilers
Just a quick note to thank you both for your help, and to let you know that it's done (eventually!) and posted in the gallery. I went with the altar cake design in the end! The man himself was delighted with it - he was Ordained last night! I'm very glad it's finished, as it has taken all my spare time for the last two weeks working on it!
Once again .. thanks for your support, Eilers
