Hi, I am a very NEW beginner at cake decorating, and everything I have done (about 10 cakes) was totally on my own... Can someone PLEASE explain to me about Buttercream and Chocolate Transfers? How do you do these? Any recipes? Ideas?...etc? I have 2 cakes I need to make within the next 2 weeks, 1 for a Nurse's Graduation, and 1 for a Girl Scout Leader..I would really love some ideas and input, and learn about these transfers...Thank you in advance for any help and advice you can offer me!! icon_smile.gif [/b]

Hi Chocolady!

Welcome to Cake Central! icon_lol.gif

I'm not really any good at posting links & such, but there are directions on Cake Central here (with pictures) for a frozen buttercream transfer. If you'll just go to the search box in the upper right corner of the page, type in "frozen buttercream transfer," --then the first thing that comes up will be the page I'm talking about.

That way, you can try a couple of simple ones out, and have plenty of time to get it the way you want before decorating "the real thing!" icon_wink.gif

I can offer ONE tip---I've read on here that sometimes people have trouble with the waxed paper sticking...you may want to try it with both waxed paper AND Saran wrap.

Also--there's instructions for a buttercream transfer, too.

Again, WELCOME!

Hi, I just did my first transfer this week. I was very scared, but it really wasn't hard at all. I used name brand wax paper and had no trouble getting it off. I made mine pretty thick because I didn't want it to break. When I put the transfer on the cake I just used the same tip that I bordered the cake with and made a border around the transfer. It looked really good. Go with something simple to try out. For the nurses graduation if you could find a simple picture of a graduation cap and then something to do with nursing like a shot or ???? The girlscout thing I bet you could go to the girlscout website and fine a picture of their logo or something. Anyway, good luck. don't be scared, it's not as hard as it seems.

Thank you so much SarahJane, and Knoxcop1 for the ideas and helpful hints!! I have looked thru a lot of the "galleries" on here, and saw some amazing cakes, and almost everyone I saw was done with a Buttercream, chocolate, or gel transfer...I never even heard of these!! I told you I was VERY new at this! lol Thanks again for your help![/b]

A chocolate transfer is similar, except it's done in chocolate (or candy melts), and it's not a mirror image.
