If you mix your fondant with gumpaste 50/50 you can roll it as thin as a real bow. You can put as many loops as you like and looks good for the type of bow you are making.

You must use gumpaste with the fondant. Straight fondant is too weak and your bow may droop. All the fondant does is extend the work time of the gumpaste. Once you get proficient at bow making, you won't need to add fondant at all.

I like to make at least 30 loops in a variety of lengths. I make most of them the same length, then about 5 each 1/4-inch longer and 5 1/4-inch shorter. Makes for a more natural looking bow.

Only leave them on the dowel until they're firm enough to hold their shape - an hour or so. Then, slide them off and store them on their sides to dry throroughly. If you leave them on the dowel, they won't dry properly where the loop is touching the dowel.

I screwed up in class and mixed 2 pieces of fondant together and made a bow. icon_redface.gif I thought one was gumpaste. icon_cry.gif It took longer to dry and I had to make a fatter bow, but it worked. You really want the gumpaste in it to look really nice.
