How much would you charge for this cake? It's a 1/2 sheet marble cake, only one layer, with buttercream frosting and chocolate shells. I told the woman my price, she paid more than I asked for, and her husband told her it still wasn't enough!! I would like feedback before I tell you how much I got for it! icon_smile.gif TIA!!

I don't sell cakes, mostly just give them away. But it's a really cute cake. No wonder they loved it so much.

Thank you. I actually told the customer $35 but she paid me $40. Her husband told her she should have given me $50!! Now I have a better idea for the next one..I have to make another 1/2 sheet cake for the same customer this weekend, but with a carnival theme. Is it right to charge her more for that one, or should I stick to the same price I charged her already? TIA....

I live in a small town so I am just afraid to charge too much. But I guess if the customers are willing to pay, it's not considered too much......thanks!

i charge 35 for all my 1/2 sheet cakes, of course though if there was a ton of details in it then i might charge a little more.

It has to do with servings for me, is that 2 layers? How many does it serve? And then I'd multiply the servings times $1.75. The details then just depends. Maybe $5-10 extra for the chocolate shells & flipflops.

This was a one layer and feeds approx. 40 people. That would put me up to $70, not including flip flops or chocolate. I really don't think I could get that much around my area!!! But it is a good way of figuring a price.....

My basic sheet prices, without filing or "extra" artwork, are:

8x11 $25 (serves 15)
9x13 $30 (serves 24)
11x15 $35 (serves 35)
12x18 $40 (serves 54)

If I'd done yours as a 12x18 I would have charged $50...($40 for the cake and $10 for the extra artwork). Hope this helps!

Yeah, I couldn't get $70. either. For one layer, I charge $1.25 per serving. So that would be $50.00 before chocolate. So everyone's price is on target. I would say $55 for that detailed. I just made a little cake & charged 30 as it only served 25 & the lady told me that was too cheap & gave me $35.00. She easily would have paid $40 had I charged it. It's a good idea to check out your local Wal-Mart/bakeries & see what they are charging. Your cakes are WAY cooler than theirs & taste better. People know that & will pay accordingly.

Also, alot of times, if it is a neat cake, it IS the party & will be the centerpiece. My sister & I have a saying, "If there is cake, people, & music, it's a party." More than likely, everyone feels that way. So don't be afraid to price what you know in your heart is the right price, not just what you think you can get.

I charge $2.00 ($1.75 for double layered sheet cake) per serving for wedding cake & I recently had a girl show me a photo & ask how much for 200 servings. I said $400.00 & she said, "Oh, I can totally afford that." That's when I knew I left some serious cash on the table. Oh well, live & learn. If they drive a Toyota you know they value value. If they drive a Lexus, they'll be willing to pay more for a more intricate cake. Judge them based on their car and give them a cake & price accordingly.

JMHO.
