icon_cry.gif I made the classic wondermold cake today. I used the 1 box mix doctored with 1 box pudding, 1 tbl.vanilla bean paste, and used cream instead of water, and 1 extra egg. I baked it at 325 for 1hour 10 minutes. I took it out and it was done but the middle around the heating core they give you with the pan, it was all sunk in around it! icon_eek.gificon_confused.gificon_cry.gif
WHAT DID I DO WRONG???? I need to make this cake, it is a mother's day cake that I need to make into a beehive.

HELP ME PLEASE.

Sounds like the heat was too high or you didn't bake it long enough, but I'm not a pastry chef.icon_smile.gif

I had that hole thing happen in the stand up bear pan. Thankfully I made cupcakes that day too. You know where one of those cupcakes went.icon_confused.gif Mary

you can't use with out this one because you'd have a hole in the bottom of pan where it goes if you did.

It was recommended to me to cover it with foil for more even cooking and backing the temp to 325, worked good.

IN 20 + YEARS I NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME UNTIL LAST WEEK. I HAD THREE CAKES DO THE VERY SAME THING. I CHANGED NOTHING IN THE WAY I DO THINGS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENDED. THEY WERE DONE, JUST WITH A BIG OLD HOLE IN THE MIDDLE. I FILLED THEM WITH ICING AND KEPT GOING. THE CUSTOMER THOUGHT I HAD DONE IT ON PURPOSE BECAUSE THEY LIKE A LOT OF ICING. GO FIGURE. I USED FLOWER NAILS, EVERYTHING JUST LIKE ALWAYS. I KNOW I'M NOT BEING MUCH HELP HERE, BUT I THINK SOMETIMES IT JUST HAPPENS. I WONDER IF WE CAN BLAME IT ON THE TRANS FAT THING.

I had the same thing happen last week with the WASC cake. When I was redoing it I realized the first time I left out the water! Urgh! The second one came out perfect. You might rethink what you did, maybe you left something out.

Well I got so frustrated I just ripped that little booger to pieces and it tasted HEAVENLY..... except for the very middle that was way too moist and not cooked as thoroughly as it should have been. So maybe I just need to cover the top to ensure better heating and no extra crispy sides. Then make sure I cook it very well and longer than I did. Thanks for all your help and suggestions..... icon_biggrin.gif

LOL! Really out loud, too. My husband (getting ready for work) just said from the bathroom, "Isn't it a little early for the cake site, hon?"
