My boss is having an African themed gourmet dinner at her house soon. I thought it would be neat to make a cake in the shape of a zebra for it. I was thinking of using the standing lamb pan as a base for the body but I'm not sure how to do the head. I also thought it would look good to cover it in white MMF and then add black MMF stripes and accents. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the head/face of the zebra, or how the best way to cover it in MMF might be? Anyone have any suggestions on what a good recipe would be to use?

i'm sorry, i dont have much help but this reminded me of my recent idea of a zebra cake. i though it would be great to make a red velvet cake with white buttercream filling and covered in white fondant with zebara stripes and a red bow like a present.

I hope you get your answes.

I am making a zebra cake next week for one of my bestfriends suprise birthday parties. I am going to make it 2 or 3 layers round, ice it in buttercream, then use black fondant to make the stripes. I am thinking of putting raspberries down the tiers, and I am putting dark pink satin ribbon on the base of each tier as I plan to make the white chocolate raspberry cake with the raspberry filling.

Thanks, I might try the white choclate raspberry flavor. I'd really like to do the shape of a zebra though. Anyone have any ideas how I can do this?

Okies, I looked in galleries and no one did a shaped zebra but...aren't zebra's pretty much the same shape as horses?? I found some 3-d horse cakes some members did here, maybe you could PM someone for the "how-to's" and then just decorate as planned?

There are quite a few more pics like this when I search "horse" in the galleries. HTH some, Jen

Thanks NewbeeBaker, I looked at the comments on these pictures and the last one mentioned rice crispie treats for the nose. I forgot about using them! I've never worked with them but I think I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the links. I'm going to print them out to help me get the shape I need.
