MrsMissey, do you use this in chocolate cake too? Does it affect the chocolate taste?

Dream whip is a powdered non dairy whipped topping that you can purchase, add milk and make yourself. You just dump the dry packet in with your cake mix. I usually buy the Kroger brand, because it's much cheaper.

MrsMissy, you don't use any oil/butter at all, even if the mix calls for it?

I use the dream pudding cake that I got off this site. I love it, I use it with all different flavors of cake mix and puddings.

1 box of cake mix any flavor
1 package of dream whip
1 box of instant pudding any flavor
3 eggs
1/4 c oil
1 cup of water

Mix on high of 4-6 minutes

It bakes up fluffy.

I also substitute 1/3 c of rum for some of the water to make a rum cake.
Very Yummy!

Great!

Thanks for not making me feel stupid. I'm going to try it tonight for my niece's birthday cake.

I just baked my first cake using Deam Whip the other day. I didn't notice a height difference in the sheet cake. Do you have to beat it for a longer period of time to get the height difference?

I am going to taste the cake here in a little bit, I'll let y'all know how it taste. usaribbon.gif

I've always baked cakes with Dream Whip. I use the same recipe as Mrs. Missey: 4 eggs, 1 packet of Dream Whip, 1 cup of water and any brand/flavor of boxed cake mix. I'm a DH fan. But use other brands also.
I always mix it on medium (speed 4 on KitchenAide Pro mixer) for at least 5 minutes.

Mrs. Missey: do you like this recipe as much as the one on this site for the cake extender? I was looking in to trying that one icon_smile.gif I've never had any complaints with taste, firmness or flavor with this one - just thinking about trying other ideas.

Me too! Not really into the flour, sugar, etc. stuff icon_lol.gif . Was just thinking about trying it - it's rained here for 2 days now. Bit of cabin fever I think!

I used Dream Whip in my wedding cakes I did 20 years ago.I never use yellow cake mix cause it is to sweet. I use whole eggs when call for egg whites in white cake.
I also used pkg of Dream Whip in my icing until I discovered I could use dry coffee creamabout about 1/4 cup) cheaper
I havn't been decorating cakes for about 15 years, I still bake cakes.
I am itching to get back into it now that I am retired have the time.

I read a post and someone mentioned sifting the cake mix. So I tried it and could tell a big difference in the texture on my last cake. I will be doing this forever now.

I made a cake two weeks ago and added a package of Dream whip. I agree it was too sweet for me.; however, everyone loved it. It was the moist cake that I have every made. I think I will try it again but maybe half the package.

If you look at the list of ingredients on your cake mix box, sugar is also the first ingredient.

Sugar attracts moisture and cake mix formulas (all which contain emulsified fats) can use higher amounts than scratch recipes - which is why they always come out moist!

Other commonly used cake add-in's that have sugar as #1 ingredient:

Jello gelatin
Jello instant pudding & pie filling
coffee creamers
cappuccino mix
hot chocolate mix
Dream Whip

How much more sugar can we put into our cakes without them becoming "sweet".

I have made Dream Whip cakes (without other add-in's) and didn't think they were sweeter than a regular boxed cake.

I always use Dream Whip in my cakes - Same as Mrs. Missey. It is on the Dream Whip box (Dream Cake). I, too, sift my cake mix and people think it's a scratch cake!

It's the only way I make cake! I don't bake from scratch (too much variation in end product for me), but I have been asked if my cake was scratch when tasted!
