I'm a fairly new member and have really learned a lot from other cc members and here's my first question for you.

I have only used and made regular fondant a couple of times before as I don't really like the taste and was wanting to try MMF but am wondering if it is any better tasting. What's your opnion?

Also, does it model the same as reg. fondant, i.e. flowers, etc. etc.

And, can you add any flavouring including chocolate?

If you have any other advice I would reeeeaaaly appreciate it.

MMF tastes very marshmellow like, very sweet. It depends on what kind of fondant you are using. I tastes waaaaaay better than that Wilton stuff, yuk! But I like the taste of Fondx....

As far as molding goes it is the same for tyhe most part... MMF is a bit stiicker and harder to color.....

I made MMF once and while I prefer the taste of MMF to regular I still didn't like it. I could only eat a little bit of it then I picked it off. I think I will always pick anything off. Buttercream is, has, and always will be my favorite. Now I just to try rolled buttercream.

MMF is WAY better. It sort of tastes like those orange circus peanuts. I wouldn't eat a wad of it, but I wouldnt' be disgusted if I ate some that was attached to a piece of cake.

To be honest, I found it a pain to make MMF...especailly when you had to cover 3 tiers! I now use satin ice for everything and I love it! It is easy to work with, taste great and comes out perfect everytime.

Here is info on it:

You can buy it just about everywhere. My favorite place though is:

http://www.cakedeco.com/

I think sugarcraft has it as well, if you don't want to pay the mim. order.

Once I figured it out, I thought it was really easy to make MMF. It only took like 10 minutes, plus it's WAY cheaper than buying pre-made. One batch is like $2.50, for the marshmallows and the sugar.

It is very easy...if you have just one cake to cover. But when you have several stacked cakes to do, and have to make one batch at a time of MMF, and work it smooth, it is a lot of work and just takes too much time! I found my time just got too valuable during the busy wedding season!

Satin Ice is 16 bucks for 5 lbs. Even less if you buy it in large amounts. That is really isn't that much more then making MMF. I also find it so much easier to work with!

Don't get me wrong, MMF wonderful and fun to work with...I like using it for making sculptured people and things like that, but for speed, elegance and beauty, there are other alternatives to Wilton's Fondant (which is HORRIBLE! I don't know how anyone can eat that stuff!)

MMF is a ain to make, and if you have alot to do, kinda get old kneeding it all... But the pre-made stuff is more pricy, but I like to taste....

I prefer Fondx, but that is just me. I do alot of figure molding and satin ice is smoother, probable better to cover cakes with...

Yes, they are really nice. At first I thought it was hand molded but then noticed on the Taz cake it was done from a mold.

Here's my 2 cents.

I'm a big mmf fan. The first 2 or 3 times making it were a bit troublesome, but now it's a breeze. And the cost, for me, can't be beat. I only do 3 or 4 cakes a month so ordering fondant on line is not really cost effective for me.

Making and using mmf just takes some time and patience. I still on occasion buy Wilton's stuff to cover boards and when I need just a little bit - but I always say - don't eat ...what ever part it is.

The wilton stuff stays fresh for a long time if you seal it properly. But, the mmf doesn't last nearly as long - maybe a week or so.

I just bough some satin ice to play with but the small bucket cost $9.99. I tasted it and it tastes OK, but I still prefer the mmf.
