A Few Of My Fondant Figurine Issues...plz Help
Decorating By ombaker Updated 8 May 2007 , 10:55pm by ombaker
I am trying my first attempt at these and boy are they fun. They are also frustrating. The work I've seen on here is amazing so I hope I can get some good tips.
OK first how do you handle these itty bitty pieces of damp fondant? I am making 2 little boys wearing overalls. The little straps keep sticking to my fingers when I try to attach them to the body.
how do you keep fingernail imprints out of the features when you try to shape something, ie:an ankle? My nails are short
How do you cut those tiny fingers and toes? I have an xacto but if keeps sticking. Per Debbie Brown she says pull and twist each finger....WHAT!!! They are so tiny if I touch them they are ruined.
Are my fingers just too big?? I managed to complete one and it's ok but I'd like it smoother and neater and I just can't seem to get it.
I have other issues but these are the main ones. Any and all tips are welcome. Thx so much!

I would say you are putting too much liquid on your fondant pieces. It only takes a very small amount and use a fine brush to apply a little to the piece and a little to the place where it will be stuck.

It takes practice, but try not using the tips of your fingers more of the balls of your fingers and if possible use fondant/gum paste tools as much as possible to help smooth.
I'm still practicing on the fingers and toes. But using a frim fondant or fondant mixed about 50/50 with gum paste seems to help. I also found that starting out a little thicker than I want helps then I can thin it out in the process of forming the detail work.
HTH - but you're right figures are fun ![]()
i use a cocktail stick tip to wet the small bits. i also pick some of the small bits up with the stick if i can without poking too obvious a mark in whatever it is!

Thanks for the help guys. Playing around a bit has helped to figure out certain techniques.
What do you use to cut your eyes out with? I'm using a #3 but the little dots don't pop out nice and round.
