i am posting this thread because i don't think i am only one.
I just got another order for spiderman... i hate him. it never comes out the way i want and so on . i just really dislike making spiderman.
icon_cry.gif

do you have any cakes ( characters) that you prefer not to do?

My other problem is that i cann't say no, but really, this is the last
spiderman i will ever do in my life. I promise!

I haven't been asked to do a Spiderman yet, but I tell you if I have to do one more SpongeBob cake, I think I'm going to back my car over my cake pan!

I hate both spongebob and spiderman. And I have to do spongebob for next Sat. and a spiderman in July. I should have never put either one of them in my portfolio book. icon_cry.gif

I'm sick of tired of doing millions of star tips on any character pans! Last time I did was a baseball boy and you should see the outcome after sitting on the picnic table outside for just 20 minutes - thanks to 95* Florida weather - it went literally MELT!! I used Crisco type Buttercream.

I AGREE surfergina!!!I'm sick of the character pans too... and I try NOT to accept any orders for character cakes. The last one I did was the Pooh 3-D cake last year. I only did it because my co-worker begged me too. The star tip piping is just too repetitive--not enough creative license for me. birthday.gif

I am right there with you, Liis...I am sick of Spiderman, and Winnie the Pooh with his Hunny Pot, too. People ask me if I have every cake I have ever made on my website. I tell them No, because no one wants to look at 60 Spiderman cakes that are all the same, or at least 50 Winnie the Pooh. It used to be the same with Power Rangers...I made so many of those, but at least some were in different colors. I have over around 700 cake pans, but have used less than 1/3 of them. Sadly, no one wants Yosemite Sam or a Popeye or Darth Vader. At least not yet...

I do not like to do Thomas the Tank Engine using the character pan. Its too much detail, unfortable spots to ice, etc...

Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

I hate character cakes of any type. Sooooo unimaginative. That's why I collect character graphics. Anybody wants a character cake from me, they're gonna get an edible image.

I hate making Thomas the Train! The 3D train pan is so irritating to work with, and Thomas's goofy little face never seems to turnout the same no matter how many times I do it.....A woman overheard me talking to a friend about the last one I did, and then proceeded to ask me to do Thomas for her son!! AAAAHHH! I said "Oh sure!" , but was thinking
"Oh *?*@*!" , I can't believe I said yes to another freekin train!!! icon_lol.gif

I am not the cake or internet police by any means but I was just wondering how you are taking orders on character cakes?? I thought we weren't allowed to do this. I am very new to cake decorating still and I don't know what I can make and cannot make and make money off of it... icon_cry.gif If someone can send me a PM and let me know what is up I would appreciate it!!!!

I hate doing anything square at this moment because I cannot get my edges smooth!! I have an all square wedding cake in September too..OHHHHH NOOOO!!! I better get some practice!!!

Most people who buy cakes don't care (or know) about licensing laws. All they want is their cake.

I personally don't give a hoot about these huge companies and their licensing laws...let 'em come take me away.

If a company whose sole business is to market and sell cake decorating equipment is bold enough to make a character pan, and then mass market it---really---do you think the "cake police" are going to come into your home with a warrant?

There would have to be hundreds of people involved in that "take down," from the company on down.

All in the name of "Daffy," if you ask me...

Just my two cents--no flames, please!

We are allowed to use character pans only for personal use...essentially for family and friends. Hypothetically speaking, my family and friends reimburse me for ingredients and for my time. Hypothetically speaking, I only bake for friends and family ... and for their friends and family... and for friends I have not yet met icon_wink.gif

I'd have to agree with several other posts here, Thomas the Tank Engine stand up train pan! UGH!! My last one also wanted 18 cupcakes all with Thomas' face on them. I hate doing him!! One of my customers almost gave a photo of one of these cakes to a local hobby shop that sells lots of Thomas stuff. I told her "please no!" I can't take it anymore, I should remove it from my website too.

I am so glad that I am not the only train hater! I am yet to decorate a train cake that I like! It's not the poor train's fault, I just can't get one that both looks good and doesn't take 10 hours to finish!
I am currently planning my 6th new design to see if this works both for the parents, and also my time factor. It is not worth me spending an enormous amount of time on a cake that I won't get paid much for!!
My hubby thinks I am now train-phobic about cakes since I dread them before I even start now! icon_redface.gif

My grandson wanted a Thomas cake and I didn't want to do the "usual" one. Hate any cake decorated all in stars. I did a web search and found one that looked quick and easy. (I made it with a 9x13 pan and a 4" round. The original cake had the 4' circle cut out from the 9x13. Filled the hole in with twinkies and them placed the circle on top.) Have used it ever since but I'm still working on perfecting the eyes. icon_confused.gif You can see mine here: http://home.bellsouth.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=2001&groupid=301363&invby=35616185&invid=422022

I made one Blues Clues character pan cake and I sold the pan in my yard sale soon after...not worth the pain and agony!
I don't like making sheet cakes...boooooring and I can't stand cakes for boys...like Power Rangers etc...sorry, but I'm a girlie girl.
I also don't like making the same cake over too.
This year I'm tired of boy baby showers...everyones having boys!!!!
