What do you use to roll your fondant that has minimal sticking? I just started using the Satin Ice and I can't keep it from sticking to everything I try. The 1st time I used Fondant it was the Wilton stuff (gross I know) but I didn't have a terrible time of it not sticking to the Wilton mat.
I have no clue what to do...Please help!!!

A little cornstarch may help.

I use a little crisco smeared on the surface area. It works really good and allows the fondant to spread easily.

i have a silicon rolling pin that works perfectly, nothing has gotten stuck to it yet. i roll it out on a surface that has been sprinkled with powdered sugar.

I use the big Wilton one - Crisco it a little too.

We took a class recntly from Colette Peters and she uses the silicone ones. May be worth it!

I bought a couple yards of the see through plastic from the fabric store that people use for table covers. Worked great!

Where do you buy the silicone mat? Would JoAnns sell that stuff and Girltrapped, where did you buy your plastic? Is this stuff costly? Thanks! icon_smile.gif

Oh, and I tried the conrstartch but it ruined my fondant. I was using the stain ice chocolate fondant and it turned it white and crumbly and dry. I did not use that much either, I gently sprinkled a little through my fingers onto the mat... icon_sad.gif

I love the Satin Ice fondant too, but have had the same issues with it sticking - I found the best bet was the Crisco lightly rubbed on your work surface (I roll it out onto my Wilton mat, or directly onto my clean countertop, if I need a BIG cover).

Ironically, I've always been totally disgusted by Crisco - not that it isn't wonderful, but I have a personal issue with the texture (has always grossed me out since I was a wee' little lass). Now that I'm working non-stop with fondant, I find myself slathering up with it whenever I'm working!! icon_rolleyes.gif

hmmm...I guess I am going to have to try that ( I too hate Crisco). I usually use my counter top as it is marble and works perfectly for rolling...but sticks. So I am going to try that this evening just for the heck of it and see if it works. Thanks! icon_smile.gif

Yep! I bought mine at JoAnns as well and it is cheap. They usually have it hanging on a rack because it is wound on a cardboard roll. The first time I used it I rubbed it with very little crisco, probably less than a teaspoon. I use a hot soapy dish cloth to clean it before and after each use and I don't have to use crisco any more. It is like it was seasoned or something. I have been playing with gumpaste making flowers and such and it has never stuck to the plastic. Hope this helps. I can get the name if you can't find it. I'm sure if you ask a worker where the see-through plastic table cover is they will know exactly what you are looking for.

Much cheaper than the silicone mats!

i use the wilton mat and smear crisco then sift a thin layer of corn starch. i make sure to keep fliping my fondant to ensure proper cornstarch coverage. i've had problems in the pat, this works best and i use a normal wooden rolling pin and didnt have problems.
