Welcome! This site is a great place to learn, but is also very addictive! Igot mine at http://www.earlenescakes.com/store/index.html They were $5 a pice, but $19 after shipping for two mats.

Jen-
How big are the mats. It doesn't say in the description. Do you like them. I was considering buying the one w/dots and the diamond pattern.

They are about the size of a sheet of paper from one of those black and white composition notebooks, if you know what those are. I haven't used them yet. For some reason, I expected them to be bigger, but I guess for $5 they are a decent size.

The size doesn't really matter as long as it's tall enough to cover the side of a 4-inch high cake (standard wedding cake size). When you use the mats, don't press all the way to the edge of the mat or you'll get an unsightly vertical line.

I ordered 2 impression mats, a small jar of butovan and a small jar of strawberry flavoring from www.earlenescakes.com and the shipping was $9. I thought that was reasonable - the jars were heavy. My mats are 7" x 8" - plenty large enough.

DianeLM, thanks for the tip. I'll be using my new mats for my cake that I am entering in the county fair.

Bumps-This site is VERY addictive!!! And I love it. Everyone has been so helpful. I learn something new every time I log on. Post your cakes. It's wonderful for the ego to get some positive affirmation.

Earlene also has some decent vidioes too. Actually mine are DVD's. As far as the decorations she uses they are a little too fussy for me. but you can pick up a few things to learn.

I just ordered 12 brand new impression mats from e-bay for $12.50. They are not here yet - expecting them tomorrow, but this is the best deal I've found. Can't wait to try them.

Does anyone else use other items to make impressions in frosting and cookies?I have used cut glass and plastic plates..paint pans..found one with great dots..glass bottoms..rings...new clay molds...and pie top cutters just to mention a few.Look around there are lots of things to use any thing with a deep design.
