How Do You Make Fondant Figure Faces Look More Realistic?
Decorating By kathik Updated 8 May 2007 , 8:30pm by kathik
I am working on making some fondant figures for a graduation cake and I am trying to make them look like certain people. You can tell who they are, but they aren't really "accurate". Any suggestions how I can improve? Here is a picture of the current figure and a picture of the person I am trying to make.
Thanks,
Kathi
here is a tutorial made by Lorrine, she has posted wonderful cakes here.

I think he looks just fine! You could look at Sculpey clay books for making more realistic faces. I think you could do the same w/ fondant - or you could try w/ clay to make it a keepsake. I found a book that had some really realistic figures & faces. It was a little too advanced for me! And I prefer the cuter more cartoon-like figures. That's just me though ![]()
Good luck!
I'm glad you asked this question -- I've been wondering the same thing myself! I know that Lindy Smith has realistic baby faces in her book, but it still escapes me on "how" to get it to look real! ![]()
Thank you. I'm fairly happy with him, I guess I wanted him to look more real and less "cartoon" like. I've looked at Lorraine's tutorial. I think that is why he looks as good as he does. I think I'll try to work on his beard a little and leave it at that. I still have three more figures to make. Thankfully the others don't have beards and have more rounded faces. I think the fact that the real person is very thin and has a very defined face is part of what is throwing me off. It is definitely challenging to work on such a small scale!!
imartsy, I think I know which book you are talking about, and it really overwhelmed me to look at her instructions!
