Question for y'all.... how much frosting is typically put on under fondant? Is it a thin coating or something like 1/4" thick?

thanks much!

I put it on as if it's the only icing on the cake as I find people usually remove the fondant when they eat.

I used to put a lot but I heard that it's better to just put enough to glue the fondant on because less imperfections can be seen and it won't get distorted if and when someone touches the cake, etc., but I think for my next cake I'll put a full coat on- I don't see the harm if the BC is hard.

I put a full coat on my avatar cake, as I wanted to manipulate the fondant to create marcelled hair and wrinkles.

I put the usual amount on as if I were icing a cake. I like the affect it has on the fondants shape. If you look at my picture that I have attached, the BC kind of rounds out the cakes and so many people have asked me how I did that. I think it makes for a prettier cake.

Doesn't look like it's working. It's in my photos. 2 tier cake white and pink with cornelli lace.

I find it is best to only put on a thin layer, just enough to make it stick. not too much that the surface becomes uneven and lumpy.

I think less is more, my feeling is if you have too much it can cause air pockets between fondant and icing. I have done several and the ones with more air bubbles seem to always have more icing. I have also noticed on cake shows that they don't use alot of BC under their fondant.
