Hi,
I'm after some ideas for my daughter's 2nd b'day cake. I have attached a pic of Ruby Red Shoes, her favourite toy. I thought of doing a shaped sheet cake or a cake with a fondant Ruby on top with shiny red shoes. Any other ideas or suggestions? I am not very skilled but I have some time to practice!

Would you be able to draw Ruby colouring book style? You could use that to make a FBCT (frozen buttercream transfer) and put it on a sheet cake?

That would be pretty basic but your Dtr would love it.

I know, I know....I think this would be so cute

Make Ruby out of fondant/rice krispie treat and sitting on top of the cake with her legs dangling. Kind of like the Elmo cake I've seen on here that is sitting on top of the cake

Martyz, I like your idea and your daughter's toy is adorable! I can already picture the cake in my mind's eye... What if you did a two-tier cake and use the colors and patterns from the toy on the cakes. Then try and make the "ruby slippers" out of gumpaste or fondant and make them nice and sparkly. Then just make Ruby's head out of fondant to go on the top or in front of one of the tiers. Make your daughter's name or age out of fondant, too to go somewhere on the cake. I wish I could do the sketching on here like everybody else icon_redface.gif But I also like your idea of making Ruby out of fondant; maybe still with some of the colors of her outfit as the cakes' bases. Can you picture it? icon_biggrin.gif

Ok...Jemma's party was today. I was really happy with the result given it was my first decent cake (you'll see what I mean if you look at my pictures). Please have a look. It can't have been too bad anyway, as my daughter recognised Ruby! Thanks for all the suggestions too! icon_biggrin.gif

You did such a terrific job on the cake!! It's VERY cute and Ruby Red Shoes came out fabulous!! Now you can add "fondant characters" to your cake resume! thumbs_up.gif

WOW! I looked at the cake and I thought you decided to just put her bunny on the cake. I didn't think it was from fondant/gumpaste. It looks really great and so cute! Very nice job! You gave me a great idea for my daughters birthday! icon_smile.gif
