Okay, I am very new to cookie making and I am trying my first cut out cookies w/ icing. I made the dough (White Velvet Cutcout Cookies) and the dough seems too sticky. Everytime I try to roll it out it is sticking and after I cut the cookie out it messes up when I try to get it up to place it on the cookie sheet. What is wrong? I have refridgerated the dough for 2.5 hrs. Sorry, I know this is probably a stupid question.

I use the NFSC (No Fail Sugar Cookie). I roll the dough out between 2 pieces of parchment paper, then they go in the freezer. By the time I'm done rolling all of the dough, I can pull the first rolled out batch out and cut the cookies. By rolling it between the parchment, there is no added flour (or flour film). Putting it in the freezer for just a few minutes makes it practically a "from bowl to oven" dough ....no waiting for hours for it to chill and set.

I agree, NFSC is the easiest to work with. icon_biggrin.gif

Check out the recipe for NFSC and follow the roll-out directions for use with your White Velvet dough. Maybe that will help.

No stupid question, I haven't heard of the cookie recipe you used. The no fail cookie recipe is great especially for beginners. Here's the link:

You could try to roll the dough out onto a slip mat and cut the cookies on that and leave them there and bake on it. Or parchment paper. HTH

Thank you for your help. I found that recipe on here somewhere. I will definately have to try the other recipe. Thanks for the link. What I ended up doing is adding more flour and it made it easier to work with. I guess they turned out okay. I would love to learn how to make them look really good. I guess I need to practice! Thanks again!

Bravo Brooke! They look great!
I haven't done any cookie bouquets yet but I want to do some for my granddaughter's preschool "Graduation" next week. Which icing recipe did you use? I'm concerned about them getting dry enough. I'm in Central Texas and all of the rain we've had has caused the humidity to skyrocket. Naturally this is wreaking havoc with lots of things including baking and decorating.
